Before proceeding to the online submission, please review the Congress Themes of WFOT Congress 2014 and read through the below information and guidelines.

Presentation Types

The WFOT Congress 2014 programme will contain a balance of different teaching/learning formats, and a balance of abstracts from a range of sources, for example, clinically based, research, academia, students, clients and others.

You will be required to indicate your preferred presentation type – oral, poster or workshop presentation – when submitting your abstract. In principle, your abstract will only be considered for acceptance in your nominated preferred presentation type. However the Scientific Programme Committee reserves the right to determine whether the abstract will be accepted as an oral, poster, workshop or other presentation format, giving consideration to the author's preference; available time; and, balance within the programme*.
Proposals submitted to In-Congress Workshop may be asked to organise the session as a Pre-Congress Workshop programme.
To enable as many people as possible to participate in the Congress programme, each presenting author will be offered no more than two presentations.

I. Oral Presentations

Oral paper presentations will provide an opportunity to report on original research, innovative programmes and professional practices, theoretical and conceptual advances, and professional issues relating to the Congress theme. For oral presentations, there are longer and shorter presentation types.

  • Longer presentation: 20 min. (15 min presentation + 5 min. Q&A per speaker)
  • Shorter presentation: 10 min. (7 min. presentation + group discussion at the end of the session)

Please check your preference when submitting the abstract.

The Scientific Committee will consider scheduling a variety of oral presentation formats for accepted abstracts – authors will be advised. Formats may include:

  • Professional Issues Forums (related to WFOT Special Interest Group topics)
  • International Expert Panels (to discuss and debate current issues for the profession)

II. Poster presentation

Posters provide a visual display of new techniques, programmes, research or professional innovations. They are the ideal medium for the presentation of complex visual material.

Posters will be presented concurrently within the Congress programme. Accepted authors will be notified of the details of their poster presentation format.

Posters can be prepared either in English or Japanese.

The Scientific Programme Committee will consider scheduling a variety of poster display formats for accepted abstracts – authors will be advised (see above*). Formats may include:

  • Standard Posters (selected posters static displayed for one day each, with author attending)
  • Guided Posters (selected themed topics, meet and discuss with the authors)
  • Prime Posters (selected poster presentations for short discussion forum).

III. Workshop Proposals

WFOT Congress 2014 invites proposals for In-Congress and Pre-Congress Workshops. Workshops will offer an opportunity to develop participants' skills using a variety of presentation methods that are interactive and less formal in delivery. Interactive lectures, case studies and demonstrations are suited to this type of presentation.

1．In-Congress Workshops

In-Congress Workshops are organised during the WFOT Congress 2014 from
June 18-21, 2014.

A limited number of In-Congress workshops will be selected to run during the Congress.

  • Type A: 90 min.
  • Type B: 120 min.

Date and room allocation will be determined by the WFOT Congress 2014 Organiser and Scientific Programme Committee.
Simultaneous interpretation is arranged by the WFOT Congress 2014, if needed.

2．Pre-Congress Workshops

Pre-Congress Workshops will be held on June 17, 2014 before the WFOT Congress 2014 starts.

This is self-funding programme – registration for Pre-Congress Workshops is not included in the Congress 2014 registration fee. A minimum number of registered participants is required for each Pre-Congress Workshop to procede. The budget for the Pre-Congress Workshops will be determined by the Congress Organiser, taking into consideration factors including potential speaker fees/honoraria/reimbursements; costs of materials; venue hire; catering, etc.

  • Type A: 3 hours (10:00-13:00 or 14:00-17:00)
  • Type B: 7 hours (10:00-17:00)

Simultaneous interpretation will be arranged by the WFOT Congress 2014, if needed.
Details of organising Pre-Congress Workshops will be announced shortly.

Guidelines for Submission

[Abstract Submission]

  • Abstracts can only be submitted online. Emailed, faxed or hard copy submissions will NOT be accepted.
  • Authors whose first language is Japanese are requested to submit abstracts both in Japanese and English.
  • Authors who are not occupational therapists can also submit their abstracts.
  • The author is responsible for the accuracy of the abstract.
  • Accepted abstracts are entitled to be presented at WFOT Congress 2014 held in Yokohama, Japan from June 18, 2014 until June 21, 2014. Those whose abstracts are accepted are asked to complete their Congress registration by March 30, 2014, otherwise their presentation may not be included in the programme and any published materials.
  • There are 3 types of presentation: Oral, Poster and Workshop. Please select your preferred type of presentation in the online submission system. However, please kindly be reminded that the final presentation type assignment will be determined by the Scientific Programme Committee.
    Abstract should not exceed 300 words (excluding title) for any categories of presentation.
  • Access to the online submission system will be limited closer to the submission deadline to prevent over access to the system. Your early action and submission is highly recommended.
  • The acceptance of an abstract for WFOT Congress 2014 does not imply provision of travel, accommodation or registration for the Congress, nor any other costs associated with the preparation or presentation of the abstract, or any costs associated with attendance at the Congress.
  • By submitting this abstract, you together with any co-authors, give permission for the abstract (if selected for inclusion in the Congress programme), to be published on a CDROM, Congress website, &/or in a book of Congress Proceedings, and for your contact details to be forwarded to publications interested in your work.
  • Submission of an abstract indicates that the abstract has been approved by all authors.
  • Accepted abstracts will be presented by an author. The head author will notify the Congress Secretariat if the presenting author changes, or if the abstract is unable to be presented.
  • The abstract should be as informative as possible.
    Research abstracts should include:

    • Introduction
    • Objectives
    • Methods
    • Results
    • Conclusion
    • Contribution to the practice/evidence base of occupational therapy
    Non-research abstracts should include:
    • Introduction
    • Objectives
    • Description/Report
    • Results/Discussion
    • Conclusion
    • Contribution to the practice/evidence base of occupational therapy

[Workshop Abstracts]

  • Authors of workshop abstracts (In-Congress/Pre-Congress) should be occupational therapists.
  • The abstract should be as informative as possible.
  • Workshop Abstracts should include:
    • Learning objectives
    • Minimum and maximum number of participants suitable for the programme
    • Description of teaching methods.

Images, tables, diagrams, and graphs cannot be accepted in the abstract submission process.
Abstract length should not exceed 300 words excluding the title.

A maximum of two (2) abstracts only will be accepted as per first author.

Flow of Submission

  • Register your personal information at the User Registration Page. ID and Password are automatically sent to your registered e-mail address. Please access the submission page entering the provided ID and Password. This ID and Password is required when making corrections or updates of your personal information and submitted abstracts. For security reasons, the secretariat office will not reply to Password Inquiries.
  • Submitted abstract(s) can be modified up to 5 times.
  • Please follow instructions given on the online submission page.

Each abstract will be reviewed by 2 or more reviewers (English and Japanese).
The review criteria will address:

  • Quality of the Written Abstract
